3 REASONS TO LIVE IN YOUR NEW HOME BEFORE RENOVATING

When purchasing any property, there will always be certain things that will not be exactly what you’re looking for in a home. For example, you may not like the bathroom, or feel the kitchen needs updating. No matter which home you choose, there will always be “tweaks” required here and there.

You may however, be buying a property with the intention to make renovations.  But, before you get the sledgehammer out, you need to be sure what changes you wish to tackle, otherwise it could cost you thousands.

Here are 3 reasons to live in your new home, before renovating:

1.Buying a home is a big deal, and you deserve a break!  So before you’re ready to start removing tiles off the walls, and pulling shower fitments out, take a well deserved rest.  It probably took you a while to get into homeownership in Spain in the first place, so go easy on yourself, and don’t try to tackle everything as soon as you get the keys.

2.Living in the home for a while, can change your opinion on exactly what it is, that you’d like to alter.  Once you’ve lived in it, you’ll be able to figure out exactly what needs seeing to first, and, you may even change your mind on whether you really do need to remove an entire wall!

3.As long as you can live in at least part of the house, don’t feel like you have to rush things.  Like any home improvement, things take time.  You need to overestimate your time frame… especially in Spain!  Builders may give you a guideline of how long the renovation project may take, but don’t bank on it being finished on time.  Have your “go with the flow” mindset hat on, and don’t get stressed out if you can’t get it all done at once.  Remember, it will be worth the wait!

Contrary to popular belief, buyers that say they don’t want to purchase a home that needs any work at all, do end up with a home that needs at least, a little!

Buying?  Enjoy the journey!
